I imagine that many of you are of a certain age that you enjoy the music of Johnny Mathis. Some say that half the people in the US were conceived while his music was playing. (Sinatra gets credit for the rest.)
Mathis was due to perform in the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, NJ, on August 11, but we learned today that he will undergo hip surgery very soon. Here is part of our posting regarding this news:
Johnny Mathis, who was to appear in Great Auditorium on August 11, has been cancelled. Here is the official press release provided by the Mathis organization:
“Johnny Mathis will be undergoing a 2nd right hip replacement on July 31, 2012. He will be canceling all of his upcoming dates from that time through his recovery period which is expected to run until the middle of October. At his most recent office visit and examination, Mr. Mathis’ orthopedic surgeon determined that the singer’s first artificial hip has deteriorated to the condition where replacement has now become necessary.”
“Mr. Mathis greatly regrets the inconvenience that this has caused to his fans as well as the venues and promoters. He is very much looking forward to the end of October when he will be resuming his normal schedule of concerts and returning to his favorite thing which is singing.”
Mr. Mathis will be missed in the Grove this summer. His last show here was wonderful, wonderful. Here is a song that is not one of his mega-hits, but chances are that you will like “What I Did For Love” from “A Chorus Line.” —–PG
