Gypsy music is derived from many regions of Eastern Europe. It has a “dark” quality which has been associated with romance, especially the erotic sound of the violins.    Interestingly, Gypsies are often called Romas.

The Glenn Miller classic song “I Know Why and So Do You.” has this lyric:

"When you smile at me I hear gypsy violins
When you dance with me, I'm in heaven when the music begins."
